Throughout history, Istanbul has supplied its water and wood needs from this region. Ballıgerme and Kurşungerme arches near Gümüşpınar village, from the region where water was carried by arches during the Byzantine period, are standing intact. In the last century, the people of Istanbul who were given the water of Terkos Lake and the mains water was called Terkos. There are also many healing water sources in the vicinity. Akalan, İhsaniye, Strandja, Gümüşpınar, Karamandere and Ayazma spring waters come from here.
